48 more people have died in Greater Manchester's hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus

A further 48 people have died in Greater Manchester's hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus.

The region's hospital death toll has now reached 5,591, the latest NHS figures show.

Nineteen more coronavirus deaths were recorded by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust - the organisation in charge of the MRI and Wythenshawe Hospital.

Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust recorded another 11 deaths. The trust's figures include those for North Manchester General, the Royal Oldham, Rochdale Infirmary and Fairfield General.

The Royal Bolton and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust recorded six new deaths each.

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust confirmed three new deaths, Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust two and Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust one.

The total number of coronavirus-related deaths at hospital trusts in Greater Manchester, as of Friday, February 26, is:

  • Bolton NHS Foundation Trust - 612 (+6)
  • Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust - 9
  • Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust - 1,106 (+19)
  • NHS Nightingale Hospital North West - 6
  • Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - 1,524 (+13)
  • Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust - 8 (+1)
  • Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust - 481
  • Stockport NHS Foundation Trust - 526 (+6)
  • Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - 552 (+2)
  • The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - 27
  • Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust - 740 (+3)

Nationally, a further 307 people, who tested positive coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 82,717.

Patients were aged between 34 and 100 years old. All except 9 (aged 60 to 94 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from November 3 to February 25 with the majority being on or after February 19.
