48 hours of thunderstorms to hit Wales as Met Office extends its weather warning

A 21-hour weather warning for thunderstorms in Wales has been extended and in fact doubled in some places.

The Met Office has issued an extension to the yellow weather warning for thunderstorms it first issued on Sunday.

Storms are now set to batter some parts of the country for almost two whole days.

Thunderstorms are expected to hit most of Wales from 3am on Tuesday morning until midnight but Wrexham and St Asaph will be affected by the new weather warning issued which is in place from Tuesday at midnight until Wednesday at midnight.

The warning also covers most of the Midlands, northern England, and Scotland.

The Met Office is warning the thunderstorms are likely to bring flooding in some places and possible travel disruption.

The warning comes a week after Wales was hit by a  series of thunderstorms  that brought 15mm of rain in an hour.

Welsh weatherman Derek Brockway said: "A few places could see 30mm of rainfall in an hour and 40 to 50mm in a few hours.

"Some parts of the warning area will miss the heaviest rainfall."
