48 hour police crackdown in Merseyside town

A 48 hour police crackdown has come into force after reports of anti-social behaviour near a popular park.

Merseyside Police has today introduced a 48 hour dispersal zone after complaints of anti-social behaviour in the area surrounding Duke Street Park in Formby.

The dispersal zone will be in operation in the area from 4pm on Friday, September 24 till 3.59pm on Sunday September 26.

The zone covers Raven Meols Lane, Ward Ave, Kirklake Road, Woodlands Road, Harrington Road, Victoria Road, Gores Lane, Halsall Lane, Three Tuns Lane and Liverpool Road.

The dispersal zone gives police the power to tell people to leave the area until the dispersal zone is no longer in place. Police officers can also ask people to surrender items that can be used to cause anti-social behaviour.

Police also have the power to send children under the age of 16 home or to a safe place.

Anyone who ignores instructions may be arrested.

After the 48 hours, the dispersal zone will be reviewed and, if necessary, extended.
