CHANDIGARH: A 45-year-old assistant professor in Panjab University (PU) died of Covid-19 on Monday, the second fatality in consecutive days, even as new cases shot up to14 from Sunday’s eight, pushing the count to 65,717. The death toll is 1,078.
The resident of Sector 14 PU campus, was fully vaccinated. He was undergoing treatment at PGI since November 21. He was suffering from a kidney disease and hypothyroidism.
The active cases have gone up from 77 on December 16 to 100. In Mohali too, a Covid death was reported on Monday, pushing the toll to 1,074. The victim is a 65-year-old resident of Phase IV. She did not have any travel history. The district reported only one new case, taking the tally to 69,067, with 42 active cases.
Twelve patients were discharged, raising the recovery count to 67,951. Panchkula logged two new cases on Monday, taking the count to 30,905, with 34 active cases.
