Police are trying to find out who dumped 421 kilogrammes of compressed, dried marijuana on a roadside in Wang Chan district of Rayong province yesterday.
Local residents alerted Wang Chan police station to 12 big black plastic bags lying on the side of Highway 344, on the way inland to Klaeng district.
Pol Col Sutthisak Wantee said that when opened bags were found to be packed with plastic wrapped bricks of dried marijuana, adding police were trying to find the owner.
District chief Pirom Chumnum suspected traffickers had dropped the drugs to avoid a search by authorities who patrol the road. The value of the marijuana was estimated at 10 million baht, he added.
The road is a main link between Chon Buri and other eastern provinces.
