The Hunter New England local health district has again reported the highest number of new daily cases of COVID-19 across the state, as 42 emerged overnight from eight local government areas.
Newcastle reported four new cases, with four in Cessnock and three in Lake Macquarie, while the New England and North West added six new cases in Inverell, a further six in Moree, four in Armidale and two in Tamworth.
Thirteen cases were reported from the MidCoast local government area.
Of the new cases, 22 were said to be infectious in the community, with 26 cases linked to known lines of transmission while seven remain unclear.
The latest update takes the health district's total number of active cases to 889, with hospitals treating 19 patients for COVID-19, three of whom require treatment in the intensive care unit.
Meanwhile, NSW Health has reported 165 new cases and one death. Hospitals across the state are currently treating 216 patients with COVID, 32 of whom are in intensive care and 15 require ventilation.
It comes as NSW Health reports it will cease its daily breakdown of locally- and overseas-acquired cases citing the re-introduction of quarantine-free international travel for fully-vaccinated people.
"The origins of where each case was acquired can no longer be determined immediately and so it is not possible to accurately report overseas cases on a daily basis," NSW Health said in a statement Monday.
The breakdown will now be reported weekly, NSW Health said.
