
VICTORIA has recorded 73 COVID-19 cases overnight, with a further 41 deaths reported.
Today's deaths total includes 22 people who died in the weeks leading up to 27 August and were reported to DHHS by aged care facilities yesterday.
It is not yet clear why the cases are being reported now and not earlier, but an update is expected later today.
Infections in central Victoria and across the state continued to drop over the weekend.
The Macedon Ranges recorded its lowest numbers since 26 July with eight cases.
It and greater Bendigo were the two central Victorian shires that saw the largest outbreaks and where numbers have taken the longest to return to single digits during the second wave.
Health authorities will give a more detailed breakdown of central Victoria's active case numbers later today.
Also this morning, federal treasurer Josh Frydenberg has done the national TV news rounds, publicly calling on the Andrews government to release a stage four exit strategy for Melbourne.
He has told breakfast news programs the economic impact of restrictions through JobKeeper and other programs could linger for years.
