Tokyo logged 405 newly confirmed positive cases of the novel coronavirus on Monday, marking the 19th consecutive day of record week-on-week increases. This was the first Monday since Jan. 25 to record more than 400 new cases, when the tally was 619.
According to the Tokyo metropolitan government, the average number of people newly confirmed as having contracted the virus in the past seven days is 600.6, an increase of 26.1% from the previous seven days, when the average was 476.1. The weekly average has surpassed 600 for the first time since Feb. 6, when it was 601.3.
Meanwhile, Hyogo Prefecture announced Monday that a record 293 people tested positive in the prefecture, renewing the previous record for a Monday at 158 on April 12.
