A ₹400 crore National Animal Resource Facility for Biomedical Research (NARFBR) exclusively for animal related research will be opened at the Genome Valley here by Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandavia in the presence of Union Minister of Culture, Tourism and Development of Northeast Kishan Reddy on April 2.
The facility spread over 100 acres is said to be the first-of-its-kind not only in India but also in South Asia and is being set up by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) covering an area of four lakh sq. ft. The institute, which will be built on international standards, will conduct biomedical research on various aspects of animals for developing new drugs, vaccines, medical devices and food products.
It is going to be an umbrella organisation for biotechnology, biopharma, biomedical and biomedical facilities to work together in one place. This facility will be collaborating with medical colleges, research and academia, universities and biotech or bio-pharma organisations for the creation and development of a wide range of animal related laboratories and related technical resources, said a press release.
