40 red list countries from which passengers are banned from entering UK

Another country has been added to the Government's 'red list', banning foreign travellers from entering the UK.

India has been added to the coronavirus "red list" in response to mounting concern about the number of cases there and the emergence of a variant.

The move comes into force at 4am on Friday.

The 'red list' is a Government list of countries from which people travelling to the UK are subjected to restrictions in a bid to protect the UK from coronavirus variants of concern.

In order to determine which countries are added to the list, a range of factors are assessed, including evidence of new variants being exported to the UK or other countries, and a country's access to reliable scientific data and genomic sequencing.
