Online applications for the 100,000 yen cash handouts for each member of the public opened Friday in 679 municipalities, 40% of municipalities nationwide. This provision is one of the emergency economic measures to deal with the spread of the new coronavirus. Internal Affairs and Communications Minister Sanae Takaichi announced the figure at a press conference after a Cabinet meeting.
People who have My Number cards can apply via a dedicated website called Mynaportal, which only allows access with the card. People enter their bank account number and attach documents such as a photo of their bankbook.
Those who do not have a My Number card will hereafter receive an application form from the municipality in their residential area, write down their bank account number and so on and send it back. When the 100,000 yen will be paid depends on municipalities, both for online applications and those by mail.
Municipalities that have introduced the online application system are listed on a special website (https://kyufukin.soumu.go.jp/) called Special Cash Payments, set up by the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry. The list will be updated along with municipalities introducing the system increase.
