MORE than 40 fire fighters raced to the scene of a steelworks blaze in Mayfield overnight.
Just after midnight emergency services were called to a factory fire at Frith Street, Mayfield. They arrived on scene to find a hydraulic line in a control room at Comsteel had burst, igniting a machinery fire and starting several spot fires inside a large workshop shed.
Once on scene, fire fighters evacuated 40 workers and made sure all machinery and electrical equipment was shutdown.
In total 14 fire trucks were called to the scene, with fire crews remaining on site until 5am Wednesday to ensure the blaze was extinguished and the site safe.
One person required further medical treatment, with a worker taken to John Hunter Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
