A £40,000 stash of jewellery has been stolen from a house in south London.

Officers were called to reports of a burglary at Wrayfield Road, Cheam about 10pm last Wednesday.

The culprit broke into the property damaging the back door and making off with the haul of gold.

Police believe the incident took place between 1pm and 9.45pm while the occupants were out.

PC Luca Giannotta, from the local policing team, said: “While these items are of significant monetary value, they also have a great sentimental value to the victims, who are desperate for the items to be returned.

“I’m asking anyone in the area who has been offered the opportunity to buy such jewellery to contact police immediately.”

Detectives have carried out enquiries including speaking to neighbours and checking CCTV footage. They have also released images of some of the stolen jewellery.
