$40,000 damage: unlicenced driver charged over Raymond Terrace crash

A MAN accused of driving unlicenced and crashing into a Port Stephens home, causing $40,000 in damage, will face court on Sunday.

Police were patrolling in Raymond Terrace about 9.20pm on Saturday after receiving reports of a suspicious vehicle.

Officers saw a silver Holden Commodore on Links Road driving off in the opposite direction.

It was found again a short time later, crashed into a property on Scotts Close.

"The crash caused extensive damage to the front concrete veranda of the home, estimated to be valued at more than $40,000," police said in a statement.

The driver, 23, was arrested and taken to the John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing.

He was later taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station.

The 23-year-old was charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, never licensed person drive vehicle on road and use unregistered registrable class A motor vehicle on road.

He was refused bail and was due to face Newcastle Bail Court on Sunday.

Police said inquiries are ongoing.
