April 02--A man was fatally stabbed and nine other people have been wounded since Friday afternoon in separate shootings on the West, South, Far South and Northwest sides.
A 56-year-old man was found stabbed to death about 5 p.m. Friday in the Old Irving Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago police spokesman.
Initially, police said the victim was shot but Saturday morning Estrada clarified the information.
Petro Rymar was discovered with multiple stab wounds in the rear of Bart's Coins and Collectibles, 3939 N. Pulaski Rd., according to officials. An autopsy conducted on Rymar determined that he died of multiple sharp force injuries and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Rymar, of the 4900 block of North Avers Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the office.
Most recently, about 4:40 a.m. Saturday, a 30-year-old man was critically wounded in a shooting in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, said Estrada.
The man was standing on the rear porch of a home in the 7100 block of South Ashland Avenue when two male attackers walked up to him and fired shots, Estrada said.
The man was shot in the back. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, Estrada said.
About 3:25 a.m., a 17-year-old girl was shot in the head while she was a rear seat passenger of a Nissan car in 4300 block of West Kinzie Street in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, said Estrada.
Police earlier said the girl was on a party bus, but that is not correct, said Estrada.
A brown vehicle with several male occuapnts began following the Nissan and someone in the brown vehicle opened fire, hitting her in the back of the head, Estrada said.
The driver of the Nissan took her to Sinai, where she was in critical condition.
A motive is not known and no one is in custody, Estrada said.
Earlier, at 7:05 p.m., three men were shot in the 11300 block of South Stewart Avenue in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side, police said.
In that shooting, a 21-year-old was shot in the left leg, a 27-year-old was shot in the right hand and right leg and a 31-year-old was shot twice in the back, Officer Hector Alfaro said.
The three men were exiting a vehicle when they heard shots and were struck. They managed to get to Roseland Community Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized, Alfaro said.
About 5:55 p.m., two men were shot while they were riding in a vehicle in the city's South Chicago neighborhood. That shooting happened in the 8100 block of South Jeffery Boulevard, said Officer Kevin Quaid, a Chicago police spokesman.
The men said they heard gunfire and were struck. The two drove themselves to South Shore Hospital. One man, 18, suffered two wounds to the right arm. The other man, 21, also was shot in the right arm, Quaid said.
About 5:10 p.m., a 19-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting on the South Side in the city's Parkway Gardens neighborhood. That shooting happened in the 6400 block of South King Drive, Quaid said.
The victim, who police said was being uncooperative, was standing outside when a vehicle approached and someone fire shots, striking him in the ankle. He was taken in good condition to St. Bernard Hospital.
About 4 p.m., a 20-year-old man was wounded in what police believe was a self-inflicted shooting in the Albany Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
The man told police he was walking on the sidewalk in the 3400 block of West Sunnyside Avenue when two vehicle drove past. The man then heard gunshots and realized he was struck in the right knee, Alfaro said. But police said it appears that the man may have shot himself.
The man managed to get to Community First Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, Alfaro said.
The first shooting happened about 12:35 p.m. in the 1000 block of North St. Louis Avenue in the city's Humboldt Park neighborhood, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago police spokeswoman.
According to preliminary reports, the 22-year-old man was standing on the street when someone approached and shot him in the back, stomach, hand and thigh, police said.
The victim was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
Police were investigating, and no one was immediately in custody.
