Jan. 07--A man was killed and at least 10 others have been injured in Chicago shootings since Wednesday afternoon, police said.
At 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, a 31-year-old man was found shot in the Princeton Park neighborhood, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman. Police found him on the sidewalk in the 9300 block of South LaSalle Street with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead.
At the shooting site early Thursday, police blocked off part of LaSalle south of 93rd with yellow tape. A smaller area on the street inside the crime scene was cordoned off with red tape. A dark blue car was parked on the side of the street with some of its doors wide open and its windows shattered.
Officers and detectives shone flashlights on the nearby road and sidewalk in search of evidence.
A group of about six neighbors stood near the tape. Some said they heard up to 20 gunshots and a woman screaming.
They all were confused by the shooting, they said.
"Why would you come this time of night, (in the) cold, and shoot up a car?" said one young man.
At 1:55 a.m. Thursday, two teenagers were shot in the Fuller Park neighborhood, Gaines said. They were in a vehicle in the 5100 block of South Princeton Avenue when they heard gunfire and realized they had been shot. A 19-year-old man was shot in the arm and a 17-year-old boy was shot in the back. Both went to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition.
At about 12:10 a.m., a man was shot on the Dan Ryan Expressway, said Trooper Julio Castillo of the Illinois State Police.
The man was in a vehicle in the outbound lanes near 75th Street when shots were fired from another car and he was grazed in the shoulder, state police said.
He drove himself to 111th Street, and from there was taken to Roseland Hospital for treatment. Police did not immediately have information on his age.
At 11:30 p.m., a 19-year-old man was shot in the Brighton Park neighborhood, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman. He was walking with friends in the 4000 block of South Albany Avenue when someone exited a nearby red sedan. The man and his friends began to run away, and then the man felt pain and realized he had been shot, Greer said. He had been hit in the shoulder and buttocks, and he went to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition.
At about 8:30 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in Little Village, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a police spokeswoman.
He walked into Mount Sinai Hospital with gunshot wounds to each thigh and told police it occurred in the 2300 block of South Trumbull Avenue.
At about 6:35 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in Bronzeville, Gaines said. He was walking in the 4700 block of South Vincennes Avenue when he was shot in the abdomen. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
At about 5:50 p.m., two people were shot in West Garfield Park, Tannehill said.
A 23-year-old man and a a 53-year-old woman were outside a store in the 500 block of South Kostner Avenue when they were shot by someone shooting at a passing vehicle.
The man was shot in the head and taken to Stroger Hospital in grave condition. The woman was shot in the side and was in fair condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.
At 1:50 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot in Lincoln Square.
Police initially said he was shot near Bell and Argyle avenues, but later said the shooting happened in the 2200 block of West Lawrence Avenue. The man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his back. Additional details about the shooting weren't available.
Shortly after 12:15 p.m., a 35-year-old man was shot in West Garfield Park.
He was standing outside in the 4500 block of West Wilcox Street when a gray sedan pulled up and someone inside fired shots at him, according to preliminary information from police. He was hit in the chest and torso and taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai.
