Oct. 23--Four people were wounded, two critically, in shootings on the South and West sides Thursday, police said.
At about 10:30, a 22-year-old man was shot in West Pullman, Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.
He was in the 12700 block of South Parnell Avenue when someone exited an SUV and fired shots, hitting him in the neck and buttocks, Alfaro said. He was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Police initially said the shooting happened in the 12800 block of South Parnell.
Authorities said the shooting is related to an active gang feud between the Black Disciples and Gangster Disciples that has escalated since the fatal shooting of a Black Disciples member in the Rosemoor neighborhood Sunday. His fellow gang members blame the Gangster Disciples for the slaying, and the two sides have been taunting and threatening each other on social media ever since, a law enforcement source said.
At 9:30 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in South Austin, Alfaro said.
He was in the 1000 block of North Lavergne Avenue when people exited a sedan and fired shots, Alfaro said. He was hit in the abdomen and the leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
At about 7:30 p.m., a 23-year-old woman was shot in West Pullman, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a police spokeswoman.
She was in the 11900 block of South LaSalle Street when someone began firing at a passing van. The shots missed the van and hit the woman in her right thigh, Trainor said.
She was listed in good condition at Roseland Hospital.
At about 6:30 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in West Englewood neighborhood, Trainor said.
He was walking in an alley with a group of friends in the 2100 block of West 68th Street when two attackers ran up, fired and fled.
The boy was shot in the left side of his buttocks and grazed in the right arm, Trainor said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.
