We’re in that murky period between the holidays and New Year's, which means this week's crop of top new movies across the best streaming services is pretty sparse. Now might be the time to catch up on some of my favorite movies of 2025. However, if you’re set on watching something new on streaming, then there are a few picks you should know about.
Fortunately, this new week’s new arrivals include one of my favorite horrors of the past 12 months. “Together” arrives on Hulu. Just don’t watch this skin-crawling movie while eating festive leftovers, or you might feel queasy. Also, musical sequel "Wicked: For Good" arrives on PVOD, which is well-timed as it's the perfect watch on New Year's Eve.
The other new arrivals this week come on the overlooked platform Starz, with a double dose of new movies. A crime thriller with Sydney Sweeney, and a Pete Davidson psychological thriller with a neat twist. Here are the most noteworthy new movies arriving on streaming this week.
'Wicked: For Good' (PVOD)
The "Wicked" saga concludes in this much-anticipated follow-up to last year's musical smash hit. This second chapter does have some narrative stumbles as it attempts to sync up with the well-known "Wizard of Oz" storyline, and it never manages to recapture the soaring heights of Part 1's "Defying Gravity" closing number. However, "Wicked: For Good" is still an overall satisfying conclusion to the story of Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande), and there's some excellent musical tunes.
Set in the wake of the first "Wicked's" dramatic conclusion, Elphaba is now feared throughout Oz, and known as the Wicked Witch of the West. Meanwhile, Glinda has moved into the Emerald City palace, and has become a national treasure. A showdown between the pair, and the scheming Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum) beckons, and meanwhile, love interest Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) is caught up in the fray.

‘Together’ (Hulu)
“Together” was one of the horror highpoints of 2025, and while the New Year’s period might not seem the most fitting time to watch a skin-crawling flick, trust me, it’s worth seeking out now that it’s heading to Hulu. The body shocker stars real-life husband-and-wife team, Dave Franco and Alison Brie, and they play a couple in a long-term relationship, which is a lovely bit of “life imitating art” casting. Though I hope that’s where the similarities to Brie and Franco’s real life end, because things in “Together” get very dark and supremely bloody.
Tim (Franco) and Millie (Brie) are a steady couple who move from the city to the countryside so the latter can take up a new job. Once in their new environment, ignored cracks in their relationship start to widen, but before long, an otherworldly force brings them back together, closer than they’ve ever been. This is one horror where the less you know before watching, the better, so be sure to avoid spoilers and stream it now. I just hope you’re not squeamish!

‘Americana’ (Starz)
It’s not been a banner year for Sydney Sweeney. While her latest movie, “The Housemaid,” is currently playing in theaters, serving as solid counter programming to “Avatar 3,” she featured in two box office bombs in 2025: sports biopic “Christy” and crime thriller “Americana.” Curiously, this Tony Tost movie was filmed in 2022 and had its film festival premiere the following year, but didn't hit theaters until August 2025. That’s normally a sign of a very flawed movie, but the reviews for this one aren’t so bad.
Also starring Paul Walter Hauser, Halsey and Eric Dane, “Americana” is an old-school caper that’s part crime escapade and part modern western. It sees a stuttering waitress (Sweeney) form an unlikely partnership with a lovesick military veteran (Walter Hauser). The duo plans to get their hands on a rare, very valuable artifact, but there are plenty of dangerous people also seeking possession, including a ruthless criminal (Dane).

‘The Home’ (Starz)
“The Home’s” poster certainly sends a chill down my spine. It features a needle going straight into an eyeball, and well, that’s enough to have me itching my face in discomfort (it’s also giving me Dead Space 2 vibes. If you know, you know). I’m sure that was the intention, after all, “The Home” is a new psychological horror from director James DeMonaco, and the movie stars former “Saturday Night Live” player Pete Davidson.
I’ll be upfront here: the reviews aren’t great. It’s rated a pitiful 30% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, in this slower week for new streaming releases, you've got to take what you can get, and at least the premise is intriguing. “The Home” sees a rebellious adult named Max (Davidson) sentenced to community service at a seemingly drab retirement home. Given clear instructions to avoid the fourth floor, which is only for residents who require “special care," does he listen? Of course not, and when he discovers dark secrets, he puts his own life in grave danger.
