4 tips to raise a reader by publisher Chiki Sarkar

Parenting is a full-time job and most adults would agree to this. From being child prodigies to becoming readers, parents want their kids to be all this and more. However, a common question that many parents have is-- how to make their kids interested in reading books from a very early age? Answering this question, Chiki Sarkar, Publisher- Juggernaut Books, recently shared some handy tips.

Here are four easy tips to turn your very little kid (from 6/7 months up to 2 years) into a bookworm by publisher Chiki Sarkar:

1. Keep it short

Have five minutes reading sessions as "children have really short attention spans".

2. Make reading a time of coziness, comfort and joy for kids

"When you read to them put them on your lap or cuddle them," she says.

3. Make it a ritual

"Do your bedtime reading or breakfast reading, so it becomes something that they look forward to," she advises.

4. Do not read the words on the page

Sarkar calls this the most important of all the four rules. "Don't read the words on the page and kids are too young for it. (Instead) look at the picture, tell them the story through the pictures, even make it up as you go along-- they are interested in the pictures, not the words," she elaborates.
