4 things to know about Rams third-round pick Terrell Lewis

Terrell Lewis was viewed as one of the best values in the draft when the Rams selected him at No. 84 overall, drawing high praise from experts everywhere. He was viewed as a first-round talent by many, but injuries pushed him down draft boards.

He was still expected to be drafted in the second round, which is an indicator of just how great a value he was in Round 3.

Here are four things to know about the Rams’ newest pass rusher out of Alabama.

Had 3rd-highest pressure rate in draft class

Lewis didn’t have the college production of some of the pass rushers who went before him, but he did generate a ton of pressure on the quarterback. He had 48 total pressures on 242 pass-rush snaps, a rate of 19.8%. That was the third-best pressure rate of all draft-eligible players, while he also earned an 85.8 pass-rush grade from Pro Football Focus.

Changed his name from Terrell Hall in college

Going into his sophomore year at Alabama, Lewis changed his last name from Hall. No reason was given, and it’s still not clear why he changed his name, but he used to go by the name of Terrell Hall.

Gatorade Player of the Year in 2015

Lewis was unsurprisingly a stud in high school, playing both tight end and defensive end. He was named Gatorade Player of the Year in Washington D.C. in 2015, en route to being a five-star recruit. He was the top-rated prospect in the D.C. area, posting 21 tackles for loss and nine sacks as a senior.

Suffered two major injuries at Alabama

Part of the reason Lewis was available in Round 3 is his injury history. In his sophomore year in 2017, he suffered an arm injury that required surgery and forced him to miss 10 games. The following year was all but lost, too, after Lewis tore his ACL before the start of the season, missing every game in 2018. He returned in 2019 with six sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss.
