4 things to know about new Jets QB Luke Falk

After acquiring Josh Rosen on Day 2 of the NFL draft, the Dolphins waived QB Luke Falk.

The Jets claimed Falk off waivers on Thursday, reuniting him with his former head coach. The addition of Falk adds a fifth arm to the Jets’ quarterback room that already included Sam Darnold, Trevor Siemian, Davis Webb and Brandon Silvers.

Let’s get to know the Jets’ newest gunslinger.

Reunited with Adam Gase

Luke Falk was drafted by the Tennesee Titans in the sixth round in 2018 NFL draft. He played every preseason game for the Titans. but was subsequently released when Tennesee broke camp.

Falk was then claimed by Adam Gase’s Dolphins a day later. He was placed on season-ending injured reserve in October.

The likelihood of Falk winning a third quarterback spot are pretty slim, but having another quarterback who knows the offense can’t hurt Gang Green.

College Walk-On to Record Setter

Luke Falk walked onto the Washington State University football team.

After redshirting in 2013, Falk was the backup. He took over after the incumbent starter was injured and was able to retain the job for the rest of his college career.

Falk set Pac-12 Football records for career passing attempts, completions, completion percentage, passing yards and passing touchdowns. He ranks eighth among NCAA Division I FBS career passing yards leaders by total passing yards with 14,481 total yards.

Honoring a Fallen Teammate

At the 2018 Senior Bowl, Luke Falk was doing his best to garner the attention of NFL scouts. But he was also honoring a fallen teammate.

Tyler Hilinski, Falk’s backup for two seasons in Pullman, took his own life just a week before the Senior Bowl. To honor Hilinksi, Falk switched to his No. 3 during Senior Bowl practices. He skipped the game itself to attend the funeral.

Wants to be Tom Brady

Jets fans aren’t going to like this one, but Luke Falk is pretty much obsessed with Tom Brady.

Falk owns a Brady shirt and a Brady hat. He likes Brady so much that he has attempted to emulate his strict diet. His teammates at Washington State teasingly called it a “man crush.”

His infatuation with Brady may not go over well, but if his career by some chance ends up in a similar arc, then the Jets will have found a steal on waivers.
