Adam Gase finalized his coaching staff for the 2019 season. In doing so, he added a talented former pass rusher to the group.
Gase hired Andre Carter to be his next defensive line coach. Carter, a former first-round pick, played in the NFL from 2001-13 before getting into coaching under Gase.
Let’s get to know the Jets’ newest defensive line coach.
Holds a Patriots Record

Andre Carter had two stints with New England, but he holds a Patriots record when he played against the Jets.
Carter owns the Patriots record for most sacks in one game; he sacked Mark Sanchez four times in a victory over Gang Green back in November of 2011.
Esteemed NFL Veteran

From 2001-13, Andre Carter played for four NFL teams.
He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the first round of the 2001 NFL draft. Carter played OLB for the 49ers under Mike Nolan’s 3-4 defensive scheme.
Carter then signed a six-year, $30 million deal with the Redskins and was moved to his natural position of defensive end. After Washington, Carter had two stints with the Patriots, with the Raiders sandwiched in between.
Carter finished his career with 80.5 sacks and 387 tackles.
It’s in the Name

Andre Carter’s full name is Rubin Andre Carter. He’s named after his father, Rubin Carter, a former defensive tackle for the Denver Broncos.
His middle name, Andre, was the name of his father’s teammate and close friend, Andre Townsend, who also played from the Broncos from 1984-90.
Keeping it in the Family

Not only did Andre Carter follow in his father’s footsteps as far as his name is concerned, but he did in terms of coaching as well.
Rubin Carter was the New York Jets defensive line coach from 2001-03, just as his son was breaking into the league. For Carter, he will take the same position that his father held just 16 years ago.
