4 takeaways from the Eagles waiving WR Jordan Matthews

The Philadelphia Eagles waived wide receiver Jordan Matthews on Monday afternoon after he re-signed with the team back on November 11.

Since returning to Philadelphia, Matthews played in two games logging 137 total snaps and accounting for 33 yards on four receptions catches.

With Philadelphia once again moving on from Matthews, here are four takeaways from the move.

***

1. Something’s going on with the front office

Either Howie Roseman isn’t happy with Doug Pederson’s coaching style or he just decides to make the day after an Eagles loss “Black Monday.” How else can you explain the Eagles cutting or releasing Zach Brown, Orlando Scandrick, Akeem Spence, Andrew Sendejo and now Matthews the day after bad losses?

Something’s going on inside the NovaCare Complex?

2. Eagles looking to get young guys involved?

The Eagles currently have five wide receivers on the roster with Nelson Agholor, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Mack Hollins, Alshon Jeffery, and Greg Ward. The Eagles likely want to get Ward and Arcega-Whiteside more playing time.

A decision that’s probably two or three weeks overdue.

3. Alshon and Nelson are set to return

Neither guy has been super productive while in the lineup, but the return of Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor likely played a part in Matthews moving on. Jeffery and Agholor on the outside and Ward in the slot is a lineup that could Carson Wentz feel a little better heading to Miami.

4. Cre’Von LeBlanc set to return off IR?

The move creates an open roster spot and unless Howie Roseman plans on making a call to Antonio Brown, LeBlanc rejoining the Eagles secondary sounds like the likely scenario.
