The Philadelphia Eagles are doing their best to present defensive options for Jim Schwartz, adding another talented cornerback.
The Birds inked former Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman to a one-year deal on Wednesday and the reviews are in.
With the Eagles now have options at the position, here are four takeaways from the move.
***
1. Robey Coleman adds flexibility
The addition of Robey-Coleman gives the Birds another guy who can play in the slot but also transition outside if need be. If Jim Schwartz chooses to move Avonte Maddox to safety, Robey-Coleman gives him options.
2. A cornerback could be on the move
With Darius Slay in the fold, and now Robey-Coleman, Rasul Douglas or Sidney Jones could be on the move.
3. Jim Schwartz now has options
The Eagles have more slot corners than outside corners with Roby-Coleman joining Avonte Maddox and Cre’von LeBlanc. Maddox is a moveable piece that can play outside CB and safety, allowing Schwartz the opportunity to scheme around Slay’s shutdown ability.
4. Competition breeds winners
Robey-Coleman adds toughness to the lineup as a slot presence after being graded as the 19th best CB in NFL last season. A twitchy and competitive guy, he’ll only add more confidence and swagger to a cornerback room that has changed dramatically.
