The Philadelphia Eagles moved on from one of their most popular and charismatic players on Sunday when they released cornerback Cre’Von LeBlanc. It’s unknown how long LeBlanc will be gone, but as a free agent, he could find interest on the open market immediately.
Here are four takeaways from Howie Roseman’s decision to cut the slot CB.
***
1. LeBlanc is a free agent
As a vested veteran, LeBlanc doesn’t have to go through the waiver process and he immediately becomes an unrestricted free agent. LeBlanc has played well for the Eagles in big moments and his toughness and versatility could be attractive for teams around the league.
2. Eagles intend to bring him back
The Eagles released LeBlanc to make room for running back Jason Huntley on the roster and vibe around the NovaCare Complex is that the veteran cornerback will either be re-signed or he’ll land on the practice squad.
3. Will Parks headed to IR?
The Philadelphia native brought his versatility home and the Eagles were expecting big things from Parks in the secondary before he injured his hamstring. With the Eagles able to place players on injured reserve, LeBlanc should return once Parks gets his designation.
4. The Eagles secondary will look completely different
One thing is evident and that is Howie Roseman grew tired of watching his cornerbacks give up huge gains downfield. With LeBlanc on the open market and Nickell Robey-Coleman penciled in as the starter in the slot, the scrappy cornerback could choose to move on if a better offer surfaces.
