4 stats that prove why Christian McCaffrey deserves to be in the MVP conversation

In this age of analytics and quarterback-dependent play in the NFL, the idea of a running back being the league’s most valuable player seems downright absurd.

But that’s also the way to describe what Christian McCaffrey is doing for the Carolina Panthers this year. And if he keeps this up after five weeks of positively stunning performances with a Cam Newton-less team, he might earn himself the MVP title.

Defending MVP Patrick Mahomes has thrown just one touchdown pass in his last two games after throwing 10 in his first three, but that might just be a small hiccup. Russell Wilson — his 73.1 completeion percentage would be a career high — is right there with his stellar play. Tom Brady is still Tom Brady.

But check out these stats and tell me I’m wrong:

1.

That’d be something.

2.

Bonkers.

3.

We’re talking about Jim Brown in the same conversation here!!

4.

This is for fantasy owners who are very happy to have McCaffrey on their teams. But it’s also proof that he’s taking on much more workload in an age when three-down RBs are a rarity.
