The Indianapolis Colts are entering the second phase of free agency, which is where they are expected to be more active as they search for mid-tier options to provide depth. The safety position is still an area they could be looking to address.
While the Colts passed on being heavily involved in the top options that hit the market this offseason, there are still some free agent targets that could work into the rotation of the defensive backfield.
Here are four available safeties the Colts could sign in free agency:

Adrian Phillips
Likely the top option available on the market, Phillips would be a great fit for Matt Eberflus’ defensive scheme. He’s a versatile defensive back that could work in several roles for the Colts while also working on special teams. Phillips was named a First-Team All-Pro in 2018 thanks to his work on special teams.
Phillips can work well as a deep-half safety, but he also possesses the ability the play in the box to help defend against the run. Seeing that he’s just 26 years old, Phillips could be a solid signing for the Colts.

Clayton Geathers
Even though Geathers is no longer on the roster, he’s still an option for the Colts to consider bringing back even if it were just for depth purposes. We already know what Geathers brings to the field in terms of talent, but his injury risk is a concern.
The Colts have plenty of resources to bring in Geathers and still add to the safety room in other ways. Chris Ballard has mentioned several times how big of a fan he is of Geathers, but it remains to be seen if that will be enough to warrant another contract.

Tre Boston
An ideal fit next to Malik Hooker as a deep safety duo working in a split zone, Boston has been solid over the past two seasons playing with the Los Angeles Chargers and Arizona Cardinals, respectively.
Boston has strong ball skills, which is a plus in the mind of Ballard. He’s recorded five and three interceptions over the past two seasons, respectively, and could be a nice fit to work in the safety rotation when Indy implements their three-safety packages.

Kentrell Brice
A young option the Colts are already showing interest in, Brice had a free agent visit with Indy on Friday. The former Green Bay Packer worked a reserve role while also playing special teams during the 2018 season.
Brice would likely fill a role of working into the rotation when the Colts use three-safety packages while making the majority of his impact on special teams. Adding depth is extremely important right now as it seems the Colts could be looking to invest more at the position in the draft.
