4 rescued from Mansfield house fire caused by e-cigarette charger

Four people were rescued from a house fire in Mansfield caused by an overheated e-cigarette charger.

Crews from Mansfield and Ashfield were sent to the incident in Birkland Street and it took them more than an hour to bring the fire under control.

First aid was given to those who were saved from the fire, with two people requiring hospital treatment.

A spokesperson for Ashfield Fire Station said: "The incident was actually on Birkland Street, Mansfield, on Sunday, November 7.

"It was probably caused by the charger overheating.

"It took firefighters from both Ashfield and Mansfield about an hour and a quarter to put the fire out but it was contained within one floor of the house.

"Four people were rescued.

"Firefighters gave first aid and then two people were taken to hospital.

"We advise people to check electrical equipment carefully and to charge it on a solid surface, like a table, not soft furnishings or carpets."

The extent of the injuries of the pair that were hospitalised are currently unknown.
