The Jets might be off to a horrendous start in 2019, but there’s still reason to hope they can get back on track coming out of their Week 4 bye.
At 0-3, the odds are stacked against New York when it comes to challenging for a playoff spot. Factor in a plethora of injuries to key players and a handful of underperforming units, and you have a team that seems more likely to finish toward the bottom of the AFC East than near the top.
That doesn’t mean Gang Green is a complete lost cause just yet, though. Anything can happen on any given Sunday. Maybe a bye week was just what the Jets needed to get back on track.
With that being said, here are four reasons the Jets and their fans can be hopeful coming out of the bye.
Sam Darnold’s return

Whether it’s in Week 5 against the Eagles or at a later date, Sam Darnold is going to be back under center for the Jets relatively soon.
That means Jets fans will no longer have to suffer through four quarters of Luke Falk playing quarterback. No disrespect to Falk, but he’s a third-string quarterback for a reason. Darnold not only brings competence to the position, but also a beacon of hope for the Jets for the rest of 2019 and beyond.
No matter how you slice it, the Jets are in much better shape with Darnold under center than anyone else. It might take him a week or two to get back into the swing of things, but it will benefit New York to have him back in the fold.
Getting Healthy

Sam Darnold isn’t the only impact player the Jets are getting back soon.
C.J. Mosley is expected to return to the field against the Eagles in Week 5. The same goes for Quinnen Williams, who has been out with an ankle injury, and Jordan Jenkins, who sat out in Week 3 against the Patriots. The bye week also affords the likes of Kelvin Beachum and Kelechi Osemele to get healthy after playing through injuries the past couple of weeks.
It only bodes well for the Jets that starters are both returning to the field and getting back to nearly 100 percent health.
Le’Veon Bell

One player is enough reason for the Jets to have hope moving forward.
Le’Veon Bell is capable of carrying New York’s offense if need be. It’s hard for him to play up to his full potential with the offensive line struggling, but Bell is the Jets’ go-to option on offense and he’s only going to get better with Sam Darnold back at quarterback.
It can’t get any worse

Let’s face it. It can’t get any worse for the Jets at this point.
Between Sam Darnold succumbing to mono, C.J. Mosley getting hurt and the defense falling apart, Jamal Adams getting grilled for not following and removing the Jets from his Twitter bio and Adam Gase’s weekly blame game press conferences, the first three weeks of the season have been nothing short of chaotic for New York.
The schedule only gets easier for the Jets from here on out. With that in mind, there’s almost no way Gang Green’s season can go any further off the rails than it already has.
