4 QBs to stream in Week 2 of fantasy football

The 2019 season is officially underway and there are plenty of fantasy football managers that are implementing the streaming method at the quarterback position.

Such a philosophy can be risky, but the reward of adding depth to more important positions like running back and wide receiver are worth it. Streaming quarterbacks isn’t easy, but it can pay off in a big way.

Here are four quarterbacks to stream in Week 2 of fantasy football:

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Derek Carr — Oakland Raiders — 31.0% rostered (ESPN)

*Stream of the week*

The Raiders were extremely impressive in their season-opening win against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football and one of the players that had a strong night was Carr. Though the fantasy numbers wouldn’t show that, Carr had a strong outing.

Now, the Raiders are hosting the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2 and all indications are they will be a defense to stream against in 2019. In a game where the Raiders offensive will have to keep up with Patrick Mahomes and his horde of weapons, Carr should see plenty of passing volume at Arrowhead.

The Raiders offense has some decent weapons for Carr and with the likelihood of playing catch-up, Carr should be a strong streamer at home.

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Josh Allen — Buffalo Bills — 23.2% rostered (ESPN)

It was a circus for Allen and those who started him in Week 1. He was a turnover machine, but he found his way to a solid streaming outing with just over 16 fantasy points in standard leagues. That rushing floor will always keep him relatively safe.

After the division win in Week 1, the Bills hit the road to take on the New York Giants and their lowly defense. While the Bills aren’t as potent as the Dallas Cowboys, Allen is a very strong start in Week 2. He has plenty of weapons to air out, and his rushing floor is still there.

There is always volatility with Allen given how turnover-prone he is, but a high-ceiling also comes with it. It could be a big week for the second-year quarterback.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Matthew Stafford — Detroit Lions — 22.1% rostered

Those who rolled with Stafford in Week 1 were rewarded generously with the fourth-highest output on the week among fantasy quarterbacks. His 27.6 fantasy points on the road showed a bounce-back season could be on its way.

Stafford and the Lions return home for their home opener in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Despite leading a run-first offense, Stafford threw the ball 45 times in Week 1. With a bevy of weapons in Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, Danny Amendola and now T.J. Hockenson, Stafford is in line for another strong week.

It appears he’s healthy and while the Chargers present a strong pass rush, Stafford should be in line for another strong streaming week.

Ben Ludeman-USA TODAY Sports

Kirk Cousins — Minnesota Vikings — 44.6% rostered (ESPN)

It’s even cringe-worthy putting Cousins on this list, and it is completely understandable if you stop reading here. However, there is a chance Cousins can find his way into a viable streaming outing in Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers.

With a new commitment to the run and dominating most of the Week 1 matchup against the Falcons, Cousins wound up only attempting 10(!) passes. It is much more likely that positive regression will take place, and his attempts could be double or even triple that in Week 2. He has no lack of weapons around him, and he scored 33.5 and 27.4 fantasy points against the Packers in 2018.

Times are a bit different now but don’t be surprised if Cousins gives a solid fantasy day. His ceiling certainly isn’t as high as others on this list or the waiver wire, but there is still a world where he finishes in the top-15
