Emergency-level priority measures to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus infections went into effect in Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama and Aichi prefectures on Tuesday, expanding the application of the measures to 10 prefectures.
The central government is considering declaring a full-fledged state of emergency in Osaka Prefecture and Tokyo, where priority measures have already been applied, since the spread of infections continues there.
For this reason, the governments of Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama and Aichi prefectures began patrolling eateries and similar establishments Tuesday to ensure that they take all necessary infection control measures.
The priority measures will run through May 11 in 11 cities in the four prefectures, with the prefectural governments asking restaurants and other such establishments to close by 8 p.m., among other requests. Eateries that comply with the requests will be granted subsidies, to be calculated based on their sales and others. The prefectures will require eateries there to install ventilation equipment and acrylic barriers for each customer, among other measures.
