4 potential suitors for Jets WR Robby Anderson

Could Robby Anderson be on the move?

If the right offer comes along, odds are the Jets will move the fourth-year wideout according to Bleacher Report’s Connor Rogers.

Anderson has only caught 17 passes for 266 yards and one touchdown this season, but holds value given his exploits as a speedy deep threat who can take the top off a defense. The Falcons just got a second-round pick in exchange for Mohamed Sanu, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that a contender comes calling with an intriguing offer for Joe Douglas and company.

Where could Anderson possibly wind up if he’s dealt? Let’s take a look.

Carolina Panthers

Steve Flynn-USA TODAY Sports

After missing out on the chance to land Emmanuel Sanders, Robby Anderson is exactly what the Panthers need to take their offense to the next level.

Make no mistake about it. Carolina’s offense is predicated on getting Christian McCaffery the football. However, the Panthers don’t have a legitimate deep threat on the outside. DJ Moore is a solid second-year player who has the potential to turn into the deep threat Carolina lacks, but he’s simply not there yet. At 6-foot-3, Anderson would also become the tallest receiver on the Panthers’ roster. Having a big body on the outside would allow Ron Rivera to open up his playbook and take some more shots downfield instead of relying on underneath routes and getting the ball to his playmakers in space.

Sitting at 4-2, the Panthers are a legitimate contender.  A move at wide receiver could be exactly what they need to take the next step and lock down a playoff spot.

Seattle Seahawks

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

There’s no doubt that Tyler Lockett is Russell Wilson’s favorite target, but the rest of Seattle’s weapons at wide receiver leave a bit to be desired.

D.K. Metcalf is coming into his own, but still has a lot of work to do to refine his game. David Moore has been hurt for most of the season and Will Dissly is done for the year with an Achilles injury. That leaves running back Chris Carson as the team’s second-leading receiver behind Carson. That’s not going to cut it for a team that is looking to get back to the postseason.

The Seahawks looked into signing Antonio Brown earlier this season, so it’s clear they’re interested in upgrading at wide receiver. Anderson could be their guy if they’re willing to pay the price.

Chicago Bears

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

The Bears could use a major spark on offense.

Chicago’s offense has run stagnant for most of this season. Matt Nagy’s offensive doesn’t exactly center around taking shots downfield all game, but it couldn’t hurt to have another deep threat opposite Allen Robinson. Running back Tarik Cohen is the team’s second-leading receiver and no other wideout has more than 15 catches so far this season. That’s not ideal for a team looking to defend its NFC North crown.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to give Mitchell Trubisky another weapon to work with. Maybe that’s exactly what Chicago’s offense needs to get back on track at this point.

Could another Jets-Colts trade be in the works?

Indianapolis has plenty of weapons on its offense, but lacks a true No. 2 wideout opposite T.Y. Hilton. Like the Bears, the Colts only have one receiver who has over 15 receptions so far this season. Zach Pascal is improving each week and rookie Parris Campbell is making an impact, but it would behoove Indianapolis to add another established weapon if it wants to make a deep playoff run.

With Hilton, Jack Doyle, Eric Ebron and a solid rushing attack, it remains to be seen if the Colts are in the market for a receiver. If they are, just imagine what Hilton would be able to accomplish with Anderson on the field and defenses no longer zoned in on just him.
