The second day of Senior Bowl practices concluded on Wednesday.
Here are four potential Chargers who stood out on Day 2:
Jordan Love | QB | Utah State
On Tuesday, it was Justin Herbert that had the best day out of all the quarterbacks. A day after, it was Love who had the better day, raising some eyebrows during the North Team’s practice.
Love was flashing arm talent, throwing dimes downfield, including a beauty to wide receiver Denzel Mims down the sideline. During the seven-on-sevens, he was making good decisions throughout the course of the drill, which is something that scouts are looking to see out of him this week.
Love’s evaluation is a tough one because of his poor campaign in 2019, but he has the opportunity for evaluators to overlook that year with a strong showing the rest of the week.
Denzel Mims | WR | Baylor
I just mentioned the throw that Love connected with Mims, but that wasn’t the highlight moment of the day. Him and Love linked up on a beautiful fade down the sideline in 11-on-11. He gained separation and was able to high-point the ball perfectly to bring it down.
Throughout the practice, the 6-foot-2 and 206 pound wideout did an excellent job of separating in a variety of ways, whether that was with prolific release moves at the line of scrimmage or exploding vertically, Mims was open and catching everything that he was being thrown.
Mims would make a solid WR3 for the Chargers, and they would be able to snag him in Rounds 3 or 4.
Ben Bartch | OT | St. John’s
Bartch has not only been a small-school standout, but he may be the best offensive tackle this week. Making the leap from a Division III program, Bartch has been a lot better than anticipated, shutting down pass rushers from the Big-10 and SEC.
The former tight end has shown beautiful footwork, lateral range and quickness in his kickslide to protect the corner and he has been extremely physical at the point of the attack in the one-on-one drills. It is time to get familiar with Bartch, and we will have a more in-depth article highlighting him.
Troy Pride, Jr. | CB | Notre Dame
Arguably the best cornerback this week has been Pride Jr. He showed great speed and quickness, as well as good timing to corral at the catch point. Pride had an interception during the one-on-ones against wide receiver Quartney Davis, and later broke up a pass against USC’s Michael Pittman.
Pride would be great in defensive coordinator Gus Bradley’s system, as he’s at his best in zone coverage. At 5-foot-11 and 193 pounds, Pride has NFL size and aside from how well he is in coverage, Pride is very physical against the run.
