4 positions the Cardinals potentially could still address in free agency

The Arizona Cardinals have a full offseason roster and have little salary cap space. They also don’t appear to have many holes to fill in terms of the starting lineup or depth.

However, general manager Steve Keim is known to add veterans late in the offseason.

There are some positions where that could happen.

The Cardinals have Maxx Williams, Dan Arnold, Darrell Daniels and a pair of rookie free agents. The position is not a huge part of the offense but Williams is the only player in the group with much experience. Whether it is re-signing Charles Clay or bringing in another veteran, it is perhaps the most likely position they still address.

The starters are set with Chandler Jones and Devon Kennard. At the moment, Hasson Reddick is the top reserve, while Vontarrius Dora, Kylie Fitts and rookie free agent Reggie Walker vie for spots. However, Reddick’s cap number make him a potential trade candidate, although finding a team to take on his $2.3 million fully guaranteed salary. There are several veteran pass rushers available in free agency still. It is an area that could definitely be upgraded.

The Cardinals have not brought in a single new face in the secondary other than undrafted rookies. That shows the confidence they have in the trio of Patrick Peterson, Robert Alford and Byron Murphy. However, should there be an injury, they could go and find someone who has more experience than Kevin Peterson or Chris Jones.

Safety

There are no new safeties on the roster other than rookie free agents. Jalen Thompson is slated to start alongside Pro Bowler Budda Baker. While they are excited in Thompson’s potential, it is the one starting spot on defense that viable could be upgraded in free agency. It doesn’t mean they will bring in a safety, but if the right player is still unsigned, GM Steve Keim has never been shy about trying to upgrade the roster.
