4 people killed, including 16-year-old, and 26 wounded in weekend shootings in Chicago

March 14--Shootings over the weekend in Chicago left four people dead -- including a 16-year-old boy -- and another 26 wounded as the number of people shot in the city this year nears 600, according to authorities.

The dead include a 16-year-old boy killed Sunday night and three men shot on the West and Northwest sides on Friday night and Saturday morning. No one was in custody for any of the homicides.

Mount Sinai Hospital was by far the busiest hospital, treating 10 of the 30 weekend gunshot victims, according to police. Among those rushed to the West Side trauma center were three teens wounded near 18th Street and Pulaski Road about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to police.

The 16-year-old was killed in the 1000 block of South Indiana Avenue about 7:50 p.m. Sunday. He was shot in the parkway a few houses south of 100th Street. It's not clear how he came to be shot, said Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago police spokesman.

Early Saturday morning, a 22-year-old was shot to death near the intersection of Kedzie Avenue and Addison Street on the Northwest Side. The shooting happened about 3:30 a.m.

The two other homicides happened on the West Side on Friday. A 24-year-old man was shot to death in the 3800 block of West Flournoy Street about 8:10 p.m. He died at Mount Sinai Hospital.

About 5:45 p.m., someone shot a 20-year-old man in the 800 block of North Latrobe Avenue. He died at Stroger Hospital, according to authorities.

As of early Monday, at least 576 people had been shot in the city since the beginning of the year. There have been at least 120 homicides over the same period, nearly double the same time last year, according to data kept by the Tribune.
