4 people from Mansfield fined for trip to Chesterfield Tesco

Four people from Mansfield were handed £200 fines after travelling miles more than 12 miles to a Tesco in Chesterfield.

Officers from the Newbold Police SNT, in the Derbyshire town, confirmed that it had fined the residents for making the "unnecessary journey".

The incident happened over the weekend of February 27-28, with the force patrolling the area following a number of illegal car gatherings.

In a post on the Newbold Police SNT Facebook page, officers said they believed more cars may have travelled from Mansfield and urged residents to "stay local".

The post said: "Over the weekend section officers have been patrolling hot spot areas including Tesco, Lockoford Lane due to ongoing reports of cars gathering.

"Four occupants from one of the vehicles had travelled from Mansfield despite the current lockdown restrictions, all were given £200 Fixed Penalty Notices for making the unnecessary journey.

"It is believed the other vehicles had also travelled from the Mansfield area.

"We are regularly patrolling this car park along with many other hot spot areas.

"Please stay local and only make necessary journeys."

The fines come just days after officers in Matlock sent a car back to Mansfield having travelled to the area for fish and chips.

This came during glorious weather on the weekend, which also led to police dispersing large groups at The Arboretum in Nottingham.
