The Indianapolis Colts hit the field Friday afternoon as training camp is well underway at the Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield.
There will be plenty of notes as the practices continue into August. Some of them will be the continuation of storylines from the spring. Others might be some new takeaways to keep an eye one entering the preseason.
Regardless, here are NUMBER notes from the second training camp practice:

Andrew Luck progressed to 7-on-7s
As expected, Luck progressed in his return from a calf injury that kept him out of the entire spring workout program. The Colts are expected to keep Luck working in 7-on-7s for a little bit before progressing to full-team workouts.
Even though it was his first practice during 7-on-7s, the franchise quarterback was efficient going 8/9 in pass attempts. The Colts will evaluate him again before Saturday’s afternoon practice.

Jack Doyle is starting camp strong
Another player that missed the entire spring, Doyle had been rehabbing this season from procedures that involved both his hip and his kidney. However, he has returned to training camp as his rightful place as the starting tight end, which should be expected as long as he’s healthy.
In doing so, he’s continuing to show that he will be a massive short/intermediate target for the offense and one that will likely rack up the receptions from Andrew Luck.

Penny Hart showing value as a returner
The Colts have a handful of undrafted free agents that are trying to crack the roster, extending the team’s streak to 21 consecutive seasons with an undrafted free agent making the initial cut. It will be tough this fall, but there are a few to watch.
Hart is among them and even though the wide receiver room is crowded enough with competition, the Georgia State product could make an impact on special teams as a return man. He showed some of that value on Friday and could compete for a roster spot if he can continue to make a difference on special teams.

Kemoko Turay, Al-Quadin Muhammad getting run with 1st team
With veteran defensive end Jabaal Sheard getting a day off, the Colts ran some of their younger pass rushers with the first team. That included second-year Turay and third-year Muhammad, both of which will be competing for the backup role behind Sheard.
Turay appeared to have a solid day going against left tackle Anthony Castonzo. He was able to apply a few pressures while also getting his hands on one of Jacoby Brissett’s passes, batting it down at the line.
