4 Newcastle United players who Eddie Howe will build his team around

Transfer speculation has been rife on the banks of the River Tyne since the completion of the Saudi led takeover made Newcastle United the richest club in world football.

There's been no sign of that slowing down since Eddie Howe's appointment, as the 43-year-old plots Premier League survival over the course of the current international break.

While of course, the immediate attention is transforming the fortunes of the current crop of Magpies players and picking up the first win of the season, Howe will still have the January transfer window and beyond in his thoughts.

With the Howe regime set to get properly underway in just three days time, we have picked out four players who look could still be in his starting XI in his first full season in charge next term.

Martin Dubravka

The Slovakian remains one of Newcastle's biggest assets despite being yet to feature for the Magpies this season.

Martin Dubravka has shown time and time again why he's the number one at Newcastle and his return to the starting XI will be a timely boost for Eddie Howe's side.

The 32-year-old may not be getting any younger, but he has been integral in any short term success Newcastle have had since signing from Sparta Prague in 2018.

Joe Willock

The silver lining from another disappointing season last year, was the loan spell of Joe Willock.

The Magpies made the move a permanent one in the summer and despite a rough start to the current campaign, Willock remains one of the most exciting prospects Newcastle have had in a long time.

The arrival of the former Arsenal youngster for a reported fee of £25million could be considered quite the bargain, if he's able to recapture the form he found on Tyneside last season.

Eddie Howe's ability to improve players should only benefit Willock in the long run.

The Gunners academy graduate will have aspirations of his own, and will no doubt be watching on with envy as his former teammates Emile Smith-Rowe and Bukayo Saka pull on the Three Lions shirt.

Willock left the Emirates in order to gain first team football and potentially thrust himself into contention for Gareth Southgate's squad in the long run. He has ample youth international caps to his name and youth on his side.

Allan Saint-Maximin

Newcastle's talisman over the past two campaigns will be integral if they're to stave off relegation this season.

His pace, trickery and unpredictability make him a defenders nightmare and his performances this season has seen him linked with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea.

The French winger hasn't kept his desire to play European football a secret and if Newcastle are to dream of a return to the big time, Saint-Maximin will be key to their success.

Whether the winger is able to produce levels of consistency that will take him to the next level - time will tell.

Money is now no object to the Magpies after their takeover and they should be able to compete with just about anyone on the planet if they come calling for the 24-year-old.

Callum Wilson

Newcastle's number nine is no stranger to working under Eddie Howe and he'll be the Magpies go to in search of goals.

The 29-year-old has scored four times in five appearances so far this season, but question marks remain over his long-term fitness.

The Magpies can ill-afford any more injuries to their main man, but if he can stay injury free, there's no reason why Callum Wilson can't lead the line for Newcastle beyond the current campaign.

It's also not too late for Wilson to force his way into Gareth Southgate's plans for the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

The Three Lions boss has rewarded players based on form and a late flurry of goals could see Wilson thrust himself into contention.
