Aug. 09--Shootings on the city's South and West sides left more than a dozen people wounded, including a 12-year-old boy, since Saturday afternoon, according to police.
The shootings bring to 36 the number of people shot since about 9:30 p.m. Friday, according to police. One of the 36 people shot -- a 17-year-old boy -- died of his wounds. A number of others remain in critical condition.
The most recent shooting happened in the 2800 block of West Lexington Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. The man shot, 20, was grazed in the arm and walked into Northwestern Memorial Hospital to be treated. The shooting happened about 2:25 a.m. Sunday. He told investigators he was on a house porch when he heard shots and felt pain.
--Another person was shot about 1:25 a.m. Sunday in the 2100 block of North Mulligan Avenue in the Galewood neighborhood on the Northwest Side. A 19-year-old man was walking on the block when someone stepped out of a car and started shooting, hitting the man in the abdomen. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in serious condition.
--A 29-year-old man was in critical condition with multiple abdomen wounds after a shooting about 1:05 a.m. Sunday in the 4200 block of West Augusta Boulevard in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side. He was outside when someone fired at him. Someone drove the man to Norwegian American Hospital, and he was transferred to Stroger Hospital, police said.
--A 20-year-old man was shot in the leg about 12:40 a.m. Sunday in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, according to police. The man was in the 4800 block of West Walton Street when someone shot him in the leg. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. He told police he heard shots and felt pain.
--About 12:15 a.m. Sunday, someone shot an 18-year-old man in the head in the Lawndale neighborhood, leaving him in critical condition. The suspect stepped out of a gangway in the 1200 block of South St. Louis Avenue and opened fire, hitting the man. The 18-year-old was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.
--A 35-year-old man was shot in both legs about 10:40 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of North Cicero Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment.
--Two boys -- 12 and 15 years old -- were shot about 9:40 p.m. Saturday in the 6700 block of South Winchester Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, police said. The boys told police they heard shots and felt pain. Both were taken to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital in good condition, police said. The 15-year-old was shot in the buttocks and the 12-year-old in the leg.
--A 35-year-old man was shot about 9:10 p.m. Saturday in the 6200 block of South Carpenter Street in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. He suffered an arm wound and refused transport to a hospital after paramedics treated the wound. The 35-year-old had been in an argument with another man who pulled a gun and shot him, police said.
--A 29-year-old man was seriously hurt during a shooting around 6:35 p.m. Saturday in the South Chicago neighborhood on the South Side, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman. The man and his family were having a barbecue in the backyard in the 9100 block of South Brandon Avenue when two unknown people rode up on bicycles, Trainor said. The attackers fired shots and fled northbound. The 29-year-old was struck in the abdomen and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition, Trainor said.
--An 18-year-old man walked into Mercy Hospital and Medical Center around 5 p.m. Saturday after being wounded in a shooting in the Dearborn Homes neighborhood on the Near South Side, Trainor said. The man told police he was inside a vehicle traveling in the 2900 block of South LaSalle Street around 12:30 a.m. Saturday when someone fired shots from a passing gray minivan, striking him in the hip, Trainor said. The man did not go to the hospital until late Saturday afternoon, police said. He is listed in good condition.
--About 1:20 p.m. Saturday, an 23-year-old man was in the 7300 block of South Sangamon Street in the Englewood neighborhood when he was shot in the upper right arm, Trainor said. The man was listed in good condition, but it wasn't immediately known which hospital he was taken to, Trainor said.
--Around 12:50 p.m. Saturday, a 19-year-old man was critically hurt after being wounded in West Humboldt Park, Trainor said. The man was in the 1100 block of North Kedvale Avenue when he suffered a gunshot wound to the right leg and possibly other gunshot wounds, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, Trainor said.
No one was in custody as a result of the shootings, and police are investigating the incidents.
