4 killed, 7 wounded in shootings in Chicago

CHICAGO _ Four men were killed and seven other people were wounded in shootings in Chicago from early Thursday through early Friday, according to police.

Joseph Anderson, 42, died after he was shot in the face inside a former grocery store on the Far South Side just after 10:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene in the 400 block of East 107th Street in the Rosemoor neighborhood, police said.

Neighbors said the building has been vacant for about two years. There is an apartment upstairs, and the building is just a feet away from Cullen Elementary School.

Anderson lived on the block where he was shot, according to the Cook County medical examiner.

Earlier Thursday also on the Far South Side, a 22-year-old man was killed and a 19-year-old man was seriously wounded around 1:15 p.m. in the 11300 block of South Edbrooke Avenue in the Roseland neighborhood, police said.

The 22-year-old was shot in the back and was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to Officer Kevin Quaid, a police spokesman. The 19-year-old was taken in serious condition to Roseland Community Hospital with a wound to the elbow, Quaid said.

About 11:45 a.m. on the South Side, a man in his 20s was shot to death in the Gresham neighborhood, police said. The man was hit in the abdomen in the 8300 block of South Hamilton Avenue, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a police spokeswoman.

Early Thursday, Elijah Murphy, 38, was shot in the head and chest as he was being dropped off for work at a warehouse in the 4200 block of South Racine Avenue around 4:45 a.m., according to police.

Murphy was pronounced dead at 5:15 a.m. on the scene, according to the medical examiner. Police said a dark-colored SUV was seen speeding from the area. No one was in custody.
