1 dead, 12 wounded in shootings Sunday afternoon and Monday morning

Oct. 26--One man was killed and twelve others people were wounded in shootings Sunday, Chicago police said.

The most recent shooting was the sixth homicide of the weekend. A 29-year-old man was shot to death in the 4800 block of West Madison Street about 1:30 a.m. Relatives identified him as Rachard Stokes. Police didn't release details on the shooting. Stokes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Someone shot an 18-year-old man in the 1600 block of North Francisco Avenue about 12:35 a.m., police said. He was walking when someone shot him in the leg. He walked into Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center to be treated and was later transferred to Stroger Hospital. Police said he's in stable condition.

A shooting left a man wounded in the 2100 block of West Adams Street about 11:40 p.m. The 24-year-old was shot in the right side of his face, chest and leg by someone in a passing silver sedan, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital.

Someone shot a 24-year-old woman in the foot in the 5800 block of West Superior Avenue in the Austin neighborhood about 8:45 p.m., police said. She was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in good condition, police said. She told police she was on a sidewalk when she heard shots and felt pain.

At 7:27 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in the 800 block of East 82nd Street in the East Chatham neighborhood, police said. The teen was standing on the street when a vehicle drove up and someone inside began firing. The boy was shot in the leg and taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.

At 7 p.m., two people were shot in the 2200 block of South Washtenaw Avenue in the Little Village neighborhood, police said. A 22-year-old man was shot in the arm and taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. A 27-year-old man was shot in the face, police said. The older man was in serious at Mount Sinai. There was a crash before the shooting, police said.

Someone shot a 20-year-old man about 7 p.m. in the 5200 block of South Homan Avenue. The man was in his car when someone in another car shot at him, grazing his shoulder. Police are questioning one person in the shooting. The 20-year-old is in stable condition at Holy Cross Hospital, police said.

About 6:30 p.m., a 48-year-old man was shot in the shoulder in the 2000 block of East 75th Street. He was taken to Jackson Park Hospital in good condition, police said. It's not clear how he came to be shot.

Earlier, at 2:50 p.m., a 15-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man were injured in a shooting in the 6800 block of South Maplewood Avenue in the Marquette Park neighborhood, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a police spokeswoman.

The girl was shot in the back and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where her condition had stabilized, Lemmon said. The man was shot in the leg and was hospitalized in good condition at Holy Cross Hospital, Lemmon said. The man is a known gang member, police said.

At 2:13 p.m. a 20-year-old man was shot in the 4700 block of South Calumet Avenue in the Bronzeville neighborhood, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a police spokeswoman. The man was shot in the left calf and taken to the University of Chicago medical center, where his condition had stabilized. According to police the man was on the street when a dark blue minivan drove up to him and someone from inside began shooting at him before fleeing, Trainor said.

Earlier, at 11:20 a.m., a 22-year-old woman was shot in the 6300 block of South King Drive in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood, Lemmon said. Her condition had stabilized. The woman was shot in the back and managed to get herself to the University of Chicago medical center and was later transferred to Mount Sinai, Lemmon said.
