4 In 10 Arrests In Washington D.C. Since Trump's Security Takeover Are Immigration-Related

4 in 10 arrests in Washington D.C. since the Trump administration's security takeover are immigration related, according to a new report.

Internal government data obtained by CBS News show that by late September law enforcement officials reported over 3,550 arrests since early August. Close to 1,400 of them were registered as administrative arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

ICE seeks to deport the people due to alleged civil violations of federal immigration law, including entering the country unlawfully or overstaying their visas.

The remaining arrests were connected to crimes, including 13 homicide suspects, some 500 that were drug-related and 300 to firearms. Over two dozen were related to sex crimes.

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told the outlet that the "focus of President Trump's highly successful DC operation has been to address crime committed by anyone, regardless of immigration status."

"Many of the illegal aliens arrested during this operation were committing crimes or had outstanding warrants and prior convictions for crimes like assault, DUIs, kidnapping, drug possession, and worse including an illegal alien who had a prior arrest for raping a child," Jackson added.

The outlet noted in another passage of the piece that even though Trump's emergency order requiring D.C. police to assist federal officials has expired, federal officials continue operating in the district. Met police also continues allowing local police officers to share information with federal immigration officials about people who are not in their custody.
