6 hurt in separate city shootings

Dec. 01--At least six people were wounded in shootings in Chicago on Wednesday, including a man and a boy who were shot in separate attacks within about an hour and a mile apart in Lawndale, police said.

In the most recent attack, a 26-year-old man was shot in a drive-by shooting in Rogers Park on the city's North Side.

About 9:20 p.m., the man was riding as a passenger in a vehicle in the 1500 block of West Devon Avenue when another vehicle alongside and someone inside opened fire, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

The 26-year-old man was shot in his arm. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston where his condition stabilized, Greer said.

The gunman's car fled the scene following the shooting, and no one was in custody as of Wednesday night, police said.

About 6:30 p.m., a 48-year-old man was shot on the 1300 block of North Keeler Avenue, police said. The man suffered a gunshot wound to his ankle and was taken in good condition to Norwegian-American Hospital, police said.

Earlier, two men were shot about 5:10 p.m. in the 5000 block of South Halsted Street, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

The two were on the street when a van pulled up and someone in the van fired shots, hitting the men, Sweeney said. One man, age 21, was wounded in the right leg, the other, age 19, in the left leg, and they both were taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

About 3 p.m. in Lawndale, a 34-year-old man was shot in the back in the 3600 block of West 16th Street, Sweeney said.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, Sweeney said.

Police did not yet have information to release on the circumstances of the shooting, Sweeney said about 5:30 p.m.

WGN-TV video footage from the scene showed an area outside a convenience store cordoned off with police tape, and an officer taking photographs of the area in front of the store.

About an hour later and about a mile west, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the 1500 block of South Kolin Avenue, Sweeney said. The boy suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was in good condition at Mount Sinai, he said.

Police again had no information to release regarding the circumstances of the shooting.
