LAMPANG: Four people were injured in a brawl during a concert by Ponsit Kamphee on Thursday night that led to the singer swiftly ending his performance.

The fight erupted among a group of youths in the audience during a concert celebrating the winter festival at Lampang Sports stadium in Muang district which drew more than 1,000 fans, Muang police said.

While Pongsit, a songs-for-life genre rocker, was performing a group of youths to the right of the stage began kicking up a ruckus, which resulted in the band momentarily pausing.

Shortly after the concert resumed, the same group of youths began to brawl, throwing punches and flinging objects through the air.

The singer called for the youths to stop fighting and throwing things, warning that children at the concert could be hurt.

“That is enough everyone, slowly make your way home and take care of your friends,” he said before leaving the stage with the entire band.

Many in the audience were displeased with rowdy youths for bringing the concert to an early close and began attacking the original brawlers, who ran away. Some climbed over the fence.

A total of four people were injured.

Maung police said they had arrested Saifah Yanakul 21, alleging he carried a pocket knife and used it to slash Nikorn Sithirak 28, in the face. Medics quickly gave Mr Nikorn assistance, and three other young people left lying near the front of the concert stage.

The crowd quickly dissipated afterwards.
