4 govt school students injured as ceiling crashes

HASANPARTHY: Four students of a zilla parishad girls high schools escaped with injuries after the roof of their classroom came crashing on Thursday. The Class X students were seriously injured after part of the ceiling collapsed. The school's foundation stone was laid on July 7, 1961 by Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, who later became the President of India.

The three classrooms in the school are in a dilapidated condition, and Class X students have been using them temporarily.

On Thursday, the girls went to the classroom after the completion of morning prayers, and the incident some time later.

One student suffered a head injury, while two others had injuries to their shoulders. Another student suffered an injury to her neck. All of them were rushed to a local private hospital. They were treated as outpatients and were allowed to go home. However, the scared students feel the accident could have been worse,

Speaking to reporters, the school's headmistress, K Padma, said they had brought the incident to the attention of DEO Rangaiah Naidu, who said that he was in a meeting in Hyderabad and was sending MEO Ramakishan Raju to inspect and monitor the situation.

According to the teachers, they have been complaining about the deteriorating building for years. But all the requests have fallen on deaf ears, and the district administration had not solved their problems.

The building poses danger to students, but they have no other place to attend classes. The students and parents demanded that a new school building be built with all facilities. The parents also demanded better educational infrastructure.
