Next month, the Pittsburgh Steelers will get together for training camp and the process of trimming their 90-man roster down to 53 before the start of the season. Having a winning roster isn’t always about the top-end talent and more about a balance of veterans and young players rounding out the depth chart.
There are still a lot of quality free agents out on the market just waiting for a team to realize a veteran option trumps a youngster in many cases. Here are four free agents for the Steelers to keep an eye on heading into training camp just in case.
CB Morris Claiborne
The Steelers have come to understand that with cornerbacks, it is better to bring in veteran talent as opposed to drafting it. Morris Claiborne was down in 2018 but was still better than most of the cornerbacks on the roster.
S Glover Quin

Based on statistics, it doesn’t make a lot of sense why the Detroit Lions didn’t keep Quin. Despite being 33 years old, Quin has enough game left to give the Steelers a solid year behind Sean Davis and Terrell Edmunds.
S Tre Boston

If Quin is good for a year, Boston is good for two. Boston had three good seasons with the Carolina Panthers before having a one and done with the Chargers followed by the same with the Cardinals. He has eight interceptions in the last two seasons and that alone should be enough to warrant a look.
EDGE Derrick Morgan

Morgan’s awful 2018 season can be attributed to multiple injuries and 2019 could be a retribution year. Morgan had 7.5 sacks in 2017 and nine sacks in 2016. He could bring value as a situational pass rusher and insurance in case Bud Dupree can’t get it together.
