Euro summer is well and truly in full swing, and as someone who jets off in just a matter of weeks, I am officially counting down the hours. Yep, I’m about to have my very first European holiday, and you best believe I am going to be insufferably posting about it on Instagram. If you don’t want to see a photo of a half-eaten plate of pasta captioned with some kinda pun, mute me now.
Aside from sipping my first authentic Aperol Spritz, I’ve only got one thing on my mind: packing the perfect bag. I’ve been trawling everything from TikTok to Pinterest to find the absolute best fashion finds to load my luggage with. So, if you’re also trying to look effortlessly chic on the Amalfi Coast or the beaches of Mallorca, consider me your seasonal saviour. The vibe this year is tactile textures, retro revival, and breezy functionality.
Here are all the Euro summer fashion trends that will be heavily influencing my packing list (and my credit card statement).
The “tomato girl” and “Riviera chic” aesthetic
If there is one absolute rule of European summer, it’s that sets are non-negotiable — they give effortless, polished, old-money, romantic Italian vibes. And while linen sets are nothing new, this season the trend has evolved past predictable, oversized button-downs into flirty, whimsical, vintage-inspired co-ords. We’re talking milkmaid-style crop tops paired with breezy, tiered midi skirts, or delicate tie-front linen camis matching perfectly with relaxed, wide-leg trousers, and cute-cut flirty sun dresses.
They’re an incredibly smart choice if you’re looking to pack a versatile range of outfit options in your 20kg-capped suitcase, letting you mix and match your tops and bottoms effortlessly. It’s also safe to say that we’re going to pack a hefty amount of dropped-waist cotton poplin sundresses and romantic corset tops to round out our travelling staples. The colour palette is, of course, Mediterranean blues, olive greens, tomato reds, and crisp whites — heavy on patterns like gingham, micro-florals, and classic nautical stripes to really lean into that sundrenched Dolce Vita energy.
Mesh footwear
Footwear for Europe requires a masterclass in blending high style with the physical trauma of walking 20,000 steps a day on ancient cobblestones. You’re going to need a few options, so we suggest packing a holy trinity: mesh ballet flats, retro slim sneakers, and a trusty pair of chunky leather sandals.
While the last two are the obvious choices — you’ve likely already got your Adidas Sambas and Birkenstocks shoved in your bag — we urge you to give this year’s breakout star, the mesh ballet flat, a chance. They are breathable, chic, surprisingly cobblestone-proof, and weigh approximately three grams in your suitcase. It’s the ultimate fashion-insider secret weapon.
The après-swim edit
People aren’t just buying bikinis for their hot girl summer anymore; they’re buying full beach-to-bar ensembles. The boundary between swimwear and real-world clothing hasn’t just blurred; it has completely dissolved. The modern Euro wardrobe relies on clever layering textures that play with light and transparency, shifting from a midday swim to a midnight dinner without an awkward outfit change.
We’re currently hunting down almost-see-through sundresses, crochet maxi skirts, sheer knit pants, and oversized silk button-downs to use as beach cover-ups that seamlessly transition to a sunset aperitivo. It’s sexy, it’s chic, and it pairs perfectly with a buzz.
Accessories with personality
When you’re travelling with limited luggage space, accessories are what do the heavy lifting to make basic outfits look curated. You only need a few key pieces to elevate a plain white tee — think chunky silver pendants on long wax cords or beaded necklaces (very “I found this at a vintage market in Paris” energy), oversized raffia totes, and colourful crescent shoulder bags.
To combat the Mediterranean humidity with maximum drama, pack a silk scarf to tie under your chin or weave into a messy updo, paired with sharp, minimalist ’90s sunglasses that scream, “Please, no paparazzi, I am trying to sweat through this linen in peace.” Finally, chuck in a classic claw clip for when the heat gets entirely too overstimulating.
If you’ve got fuck all room left in your suitcase, just remember that the best accessory you can wear in Europe is a sun-kissed glow and a glass of local wine.
Anyway, have the absolute best time. Go get that Aperol, take an obnoxious amount of photos for the grid, and stay safe out there on those cobblestones.
