You know it’s almost time for the yearly Madden football game to being released when the player ratings get released by EA Sports in July. The very popular Madden NFL game is set to release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on August 25th, and to help promote their game pre-release, EA Sports has released their official player ratings.
Rating over 3,000 players on various skills such as speed, agility, throw power, and acceleration takes a lot of time and effort. For the most part, the rating team at Madden gets the ratings correct, but sometimes there are a few head-scratchers, whether the player’s ratings were too low or too high.
Here’s a look at all of the ratings for the Colts..There were some Colts players slighted by the Madden rating adjusters, so we took the liberty of sharing four players who deserved a higher rating:
LB Darius Leonard | 85 overall
Just add more motivation to Darius Leonard’s list, as he was rated an 85 overall in this year’s Madden.
121 tackles, five sacks, and five interceptions in 13 games, along with a Pro Bowl nod only gets Leonard an 85 rating, behind a player like Kyle Van Noy of the Miami Dolphins.
Van Noy last year with the Patriots, in 15 games, had 56 tackles, six and a half sacks, and no interceptions. Yet, Van Noy is rated an 86 and Leonard an 85.
After a season like that from Leonard, in only 13 games, he should be a higher rating than 85. He should be closer to a 90 overall rating than his official launch rating at 85.
CB Kenny Moore | 80 overall
The box score doesn’t do it justice when making a case for Kenny Moore to have a higher Madden launch rating, but his impact and going back to his play in 2018 does.
Considering players like Von Miller and JJ Watt kept their high Madden ratings from Madden 20 to 21 even with their seasons were not as good from a stats perspective should make a case that Moore should be higher rated.
At an 80 rating, Moore is tied 35th with cornerbacks in the NFL. He is behind players like Johnathan Joseph, Steven Nelson, and Bradley Roby. All players played at least the same amount of games as Moore last year (11) and all had fewer tackles, passes defended, and interceptions.
If I were a Madden rating adjustor, instead of having Moore at an 80, I’d have him at an 85 overall which would have him in the top 15 of corners in Madden 21. As one of the top slot defenders in football, that rating is warranted.
LB Anthony Walker | 73 overall
Continuing with the defense being underrated with Anthony Walker, who’s been underrated and overlooked since joining the Colts in 2017. Walker comes in with a 73 rating in the official Madden launch ratings.
Walker ranks 33rd in all linebackers in the Madden ratings, being behind players like Alex Anzalone, Patrick Onwuasor, and Ja’Whaun Bentley.
Last season as a 16-game starter, Walker was 13th in tackles from all linebackers in the NFL with 124, and he also had 2.5 sacks and an interception. Walker was a fringe Pro Bowl player last year for the Colts, and for him to have his second consecutive 100 plus tackle season and to be only a 73 is very low.
Walker is rated really low for his production last year, and if I could adjust the ratings Walker would be around a 78 overall instead of a 73. That 78 overall rating would be a lot more respectful and put him in with the likes of Devin Bush and Alexander Johnson.
LG Quenton Nelson | 94 overall
It’s hard to make a case that the highest-rated Colts player should be rated higher, but Quenton Nelson should be rated higher than a 94.
Nelson gets the respect from his peers, and for some, he’s regarded as the best guard in the NFL, and some think the best offensive lineman in the NFL.
Nelson hasn’t allowed a sack in 30 consecutive games. Yet, Nelson is the sixth-highest rated offensive lineman in the Madden 21 launch ratings, behind Terron Armstead, and Mitchell Schwartz.
Madden should be allowed a redo on Nelson’s rating, he should be higher. If I could change the rating, Nelson would be a 97 overall. That would put him as the second-best offensive lineman in the game, one point behind Zach Martin.
