Four people were arrested early Wednesday on the West Side in connection to a carjacking in the South Loop.

Officers were called for a BMW driver carjacked by four males with guns about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of South Indiana Avenue, near the museum campus, Chicago police said.

The suspects allegedly hit the 60-year-old male victim in the nose with the butt of a gun, police said.

Police later located the car about 2:30 a.m. in the 4700 block of West Augusta Boulevard in Humboldt Park, police said.

Four males ran from the BMW but were arrested a short time later, police said. Three weapons were found in the vehicle.

Two of the four males were taken to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park for what appeared to be shortness of breath, police said.

No charges have been filed.

Police have responded to at least 1,335 carjackings so far this year — more than double the number of carjackings in all of 2019, according to police data.

Monday evening, a man was shot and killed in Bridgeport during a possible carjacking, police said.

On Dec. 3, retired Chicago firefighter Dwain Williams was fatally shot during an exchange of gunfire with would-be carjackers in Morgan Park on the Far South Side.
