KOCHI: Kerala reported 4,557 new Covid-19 cases with 315 Covid deaths — 52 new Covid deaths and 263 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules — on Saturday. With this, the death toll climbed to 41,439 in the state.
Thiruvananthapuram district recorded maximum cases — 814, followed by Ernakulam (606), Kozhikode (566), Kottayam (347), Thrissur (489), Kollam (350), Kannur (276), Pathanamthitta (211), Malappuram (233), Alappuzha (160), Wayanad (135), Idukki (139), Palakkad (151) and Kasaragod
(80). While nine of the new Covid patients had returned from outside the state, 4,305 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 205 patients remains unidentified. Thirty-eight health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
A total of 58,817 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Among the 43,771 active Covid cases reported, only 7.6% of patients have been admitted to hospitals.
Now, 96.4% of the eligible population has received a single dose of the vaccine, while 67.3% received two doses of the vaccine. Kerala has the highest number of vaccinations per million in India, the health department said.
Of the 4,557 new patients, 3,942 were eligible for vaccination. Of these, 463 took one dose and 2,202 took two doses. However, 1,277 people were not reported to have received the vaccine.
